For the Workplace. The Massachusetts Commission Against Discrimination (MCAD) requires that all Massachusetts employers provide their employees with training about sexual harassment at the beginning of their employment and in refresher trainings every few years. Employees should be trained even more broadly about all laws and policies of an employer addressing federal and state anti-discrimination laws, beyond sexual harassment (e.g., discrimination based on age, race, religion). Such trainings may prevent illegal or improper behavior and can serve as an important defense if a claim of harassment or other discrimination is filed. With the benefit of years of experience litigating discrimination and harassment cases, Judy provides valuable real-world examples and interactive exercises in her trainings. Additionally, she provides customized trainings in response to specific incidents or circumstances, to serve as preventive or remedial measures. Judy is included on the MCAD’s referral list for trained trainers, having successfully completed its certified course for preventing workplace discrimination and harassment.

For Schools. Based on her years of experience litigating school cases and conducting workshops in the school context, Judy is skilled at providing practical, interactive and comprehensible trainings to school administrators and teachers, as well as students and families, about state and federal anti-discrimination policies and laws (including Title IX) and the state’s Bullying Prevention Law. She addresses the often confusing overlap concerning incidents involving both civil rights and bullying issues. She also provides pragmatic guidance to school personnel about obligations in responding to such situations. Incidents of bullying have become even more complicated with the widespread use of electronic media and social networking sites, known as “cyber-bullying”. Judy also assists school personnel to understand their obligations to respond under those circumstances. Judy is ATIXA-certified to serve as a consultant/trainer to assist schools with the implementation of the 2020 Title IX regulations.

For Ethics. Based on Judy’s broad experiences as General Counsel to the State Ethics Commission and a Massachusetts Assistant Attorney General, she provides state and municipal employers, employees and elected officials with practical, interactive and easy to understand trainings about the complex and intricate state conflict of interest law and its applications.
